InternetNZ has recently announced they intend to increase the wholesale cost of .nz domain name registrations and renewals by 22.2%.
As a result, our .nz prices will increase from $25+GST to $29+GST (16% increase) remaining the cheapest in the market. We have emailed all registrants with details about how to renew early to beat this price rise.
We vehemently oppose this increase, which represents a further erosion in value for consumers, for a country level domain already one of the most expensive in the world (in comparison .uk is about 65% cheaper). Over the last 5 years we have seen InternetNZ and its commercial subsidiary, the Domain Name Commission, embark on various vanity projects well beyond its core mission of maintaining the .nz registry and domain name system. Our view is this "mission creep" is wholly unjustified and should not be at your expense.
